Action Replay + SoulSilver/HeartGold
One of my friends told me that if you use an Action Replay with SoulSilver/HeartGold there's something built into the new games that will simply reset you game. (aka, making "cheating" impossible.) I don't own an Action Replay, but curiosity got the better of me and I was wondering if this was true or not... I've seen codes for them online, why would there be codes if you can't use it? Thanks for your time.

There aren't codes available for the American release, as far as I know, but it works on the Japanese ones just fine.

These are the codes another friend of mine found, when I asked her about the resetting game issue. Which is what confused me more. They look legit, but maybe not?

O.o I did not know those were there.

Maybe she used too many cheats. Some cheats do not get along with others.

I have no idea ^__^;; I've never used one, probably never will. But I guess I can let her know to be more careful? Thanks for your time.

AFAIK, no such handicap exists. It's possible that the AR could screw up your friend's game file on it's own, however. They tend to be glitchy at best, and "horrible physical meltdown inside your DS cart slot" at worst. Flash cards are the way to go if you really have to cheat.

My friend mentioned getting missed event pokemon (and event items, which I didn't even know existed) using it. But I don't have one, and would probably be too scared to buy one anyway. It was totally just curiosity getting the better of me...

I don't know if they have them in this game (items I mean), but they had some in Diamond/Pearl which unlocked really neat storylines.

How interesting! I had no idea ^___^;; I may play, but I'm apparently not a very well-connected player. lol

Yeah, I mean, it's not like it was a tiny thing either--the Darkrai one was you were given a hotel key, right? It opened the locked house on...umm...the island--Canalave or something, anyway, some guy would invite you in and tell you to go to sleep and then Darkrai would be there and you'd have to fight him and stuff and then you'd wake up after you caught him or defeated him and you'll end up leaving (or someone comes in--I forget exactly) and it turns out you've been "sleeping" for 50 years so you like went back in time--it's really creepy. But that's like...a big thing.

Shaymin's is much cuter--once again, you get an item and you go to this are and you go to this rock and meet Professor Oak and stuff appears on a rock and this HUGE GIANT PATH of FLOWERS (and the whole barren area becomes covered in flowers) shows up and you go across and at the end, Shaymin is sitting there waiting and it's SO PRETTY.

You could probably find the events on youtube, but it's like...they're fully translated--why would I just want the Pokemon? I'd rather the item.

Those both ended up being released (over wi-fi, I think). The only in-game event item that was never released for Platinum was the (Azure?) Flute that triggered the Arceus meeting.
Serendipitymizunosakura on March 19th, 2010 05:44 pm (UTC)
Those who don't have Wi-Fi can't get it though--and when was that anyway? I didn't even hear about those. And there's one item anyway--besides, I was talking about Diamond and Pearl which I don't believe the items were released for. I didn't really keep track of Platinum events except for ones that'd effect HGSS

That sounds fun and adventurous >___>;; And sounds like avoiding it is the best option, even if it doesn't reset the game. lol. And I have NO idea what a Flash card even is. This whole thing was just following my curiosity... But thanks for answering!

Thank you! I've been collecting them for a few years, most I (regrettably) have no idea where I got them from. What I really want is good Psyduck icons, but I've never found one T_____T;;

I have two working codes with my AR and North American version of SoulSilver, and I'm still trucking along. Granted, there aren't many working codes out yet, so I'd warn against trying anything.
rabbit-heartrabbit_heart on March 19th, 2010 06:18 am (UTC)
I tried a code on my Japanese games to get my Secret ID, no problems at all.
STARRY★digitalstarry on March 19th, 2010 12:39 pm (UTC)
I hope not, I have yet to use my action replay on my pair yet (although I am tempted due to no wifi and wanting certain pokes to train like burning) but I've fucked with Diamond to hell and back and it still works like a charm. Of course you have to be wary of codes right now just due to some of them being untested. Just be careful and test the codes beforehand.
Zumi.EXE: Batter failureroll_soul on March 19th, 2010 09:29 pm (UTC)
I don't really know about that.. based on the responses so far it doesn't look like it does but it pays to be safe if not for the threat of "insta reset" then at least because most codes are untested. Me, I have yet to try my AR with SoulSilver, but whenever I do get the temptation I'm just going to get WhateverPokemon I want in Diamond first, and then transfer it over. If possible, and you're still concerned, that might be the way to go for now, at least until a more definite answer comes up.
