That would completely win me over. Adding a little humour to proposals/weddings is always something I can get behind - they're usually so stressful, so why not lighten things up a little?
I would actually love this, not going to lie. And it could very well happen .. we are Pokemon fanatics and actually have matching Pokeball keychain things that open like this, haha.
I dunno, I've never really been a "geeky wedding" fan. This is sorta bordering on that territory. Sure, it's cute now, but what the hell do you tell your kids/adult friends years down the road?
"Well Jimothy, my mamma was a crack whore hippy, and my dad was a pedophile carjacker. Aren't you happy your dad and I were just loser nerds? Now eat yer veggies and do your homework before I beat you so hard that they take you away from me."
That's not quite what I was driving at. The whole point of the traditional wedding is that the symbolism is enduring and largely universal. With a "geeky" wedding, a lot of that context is lost in favor of something more impermanent, but "cool" at the time.
Think of it this way; Say you're a pokemon fan now. With the way that the franchise has been going, do you think you'll still be a fan 20-30 years from now, when you have children and an adult life, with all of it's responsibilities to take care of? My guess is...well...maybe, but not to the extent that you would want your wedding photos to feature the rings being delivered in a plastic pokeball.
That's just my two cents, of course. More power to the people who choose to go this route, but it's not for me.
